CANBERRA: Prominent independent Member of Parliament, the Hon. Bob Katter MP has joined the Joint Justice Initiative, signing an Affirmation of Support backing Armenian-Australian, Assyrian-Australian and Greek-Australian calls for national recognition of the 1915 Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire.

The Federal Member for Kennedy, who has been an outspoken voice in Parliament on behalf of rural Australians for over two decades, met with a delegation consisting of members of the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU), Assyrian Universal Alliance (AUA) and the Australian Hellenic Council in Canberra, where they presented their Joint Justice Initiative, which prioritises Australia's recognition of the Armenian, Assyrian and Greek Genocides on behalf of their communities.

Katter expressed great sympathy and committed to supporting their joint Cause.

"We thank Mr. Katter for standing on the side of the truth and justice on this important issue for our respective communities, and we thank him for committing to help lead the rest of Australia to the righteous group of nations who have recognised the Ottoman Genocide of Armenians, Assyrians and Greeks," said ANC-AU Executive Director, Haig Kayserian.

On 25th February 2020, over 100 Federal Australian parliamentarians, diplomats, departmental officials, political staffers, academics, media and community leaders were treated to cultural performances, food, wine and brandy, as well as the historic signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, which affirmed that the signatory public affairs representatives of the three communities were jointly committed to seeing Australia recognise the Turkish-committed Genocide against the Armenian, Greek and Assyrian citizens of the Ottoman Empire during World War I.
