A Sustainable Armenia

The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) is focused on ensuring the development of a sustainable Armenia, as it is of paramount importance to the Armenian-Australian community. This relies on the establishment and maintenance of a healthy and effective relationship of understanding between Yerevan and Canberra.

Through a range of initiatives, the ANC-AU acts on behalf of Armenian-Australians as a channel of communication not only between Armenia's and Australia's legislators, but also their independent bodies.

The ANC-AU’s key initiatives include:
  • Maintaining bilateral relationships through the Federal Inter-Parliamentary Union;
  • Maintaining bilateral relationships through State Friendship Groups; and
  • The facilitation of Federal and State level delegations of Australian politicians to Armenia.

Federal Australia-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Union

The ANC-AU proudly facilitates bilateral forums and dialogue between the political leaders from Armenia and Artsakh, and representatives from the highest levels of Australia's Federal parliament.

In 2017, the ANC-AU launched the Federal Australia-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Union (Friendship Group). This group was re-registered as an official Inter-Parliamentary Union in 2019 following the Federal Election. Its aim is to foster and facilitate political, cultural, trade and educational relations between parliamentarians in Australia and Armenia.

Since its launch, the ANC-AU has organised:
  • Virtual and in-person meetings between Australian and Armenian politicians;
  • The first Federal-led Australian Delegation to Armenia and Artsakh, visiting important businesses, cultural sites and partaking in important political meetings;
  • Formal events with members from the independent Republic of Artsakh;
  • Forums for interaction between Australian politicians and their Armenian-Australian constituents;
  • Mock advocacy meetings with members of the Federal Australia-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Union for young Armenian-Australians participating in the ANC-AU Youth Advocates program.

State Friendship Groups

The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) actively operates at all levels of Australian politics, including at the State level.

In Australia's largest state, the ANC-AU collaborated with the New South Wales Armenia-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group to effectively express issues of concern to the Armenian-Australian community to State Members of Parliament in both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.

The Armenia-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group, with the ANC-AU, provides a range of services to the Armenian-Australian community, including:
  • A forum for discussion between Armenian-Australians and State MPs and MLCs;
  • Events and lectures that aim to enhance the Australian public's knowledge of the Armenian community, Armenia, Artsakh and their rich history and contributions;
  • Organising meetings with state parliamentarians for visiting delegations from Armenia and Artsakh;
  • Facilitating a strong and sustainable relationship between the NSW Parliament and their counterparts in Armenia and Artsakh.
The ANC-AU also has branch presence in Melbourne, Perth and Canberra, dealing with the respective state and territory governments of Victoria, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory, respectively.
